Trump to Appeal Tariff Ruling to Supreme Court, Warns of Trade Deal Unwinding
President TRUMP announced plans to seek an immediate Supreme Court hearing to challenge an appeals court ruling that deemed most of his global tariffs illegal. The administration will file the appeal Wednesday, framing the situation as an "economic emergency."
"If we don't win that decision, you'll see a reverberation like maybe you've never seen before," Trump warned during a radio interview. He later suggested the U.S. may need to "unwind" existing trade agreements with the EU, Japan, and South Korea if the court rules against his tariffs.
The federal appeals court's Friday decision reaffirmed an earlier ruling that Trump exceeded his authority in using emergency powers to impose the tariffs. While allowing tariffs to remain during appeals, the judgment has prompted Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to prepare contingency plans.
